Teaching is an art. Schools are equipped with efficient teachers who understand the psychology of the child. Each child is special in terms of temperament, family background and grasping power. Some kids relate to origami and colouring but other just love jumping to the tunes of ‘ Two little monkeys’. Teaching Values Through PoemsSimple parenting tips and  ideas can be converted into values. If you try to discipline your child and make them learn to count or pray, sooner or later they loose interest. Hence it would be better to make the child communicate and express in a gentle way. Kids love the fun element that is so much found in ‘An elephant walks like this and that’ and also the poem of ‘Horsie Horsie’. Teach the kids the value of following traffic rules like ‘Stop says the red light’. It will amaze you that the next time you are driving, the instructions to follow rules will come from the back seat of you car.

Teach them to love their teachers and grandparents. ‘Pat a cake…. For teacher and me’. This is the best way to teach them to love teachers. ‘Gods love is so wonderful’ is a great piece of poem and the tune is subtle to make the child understand the greatness of God and love. Teach them about patriotism through the national anthem and song. Teach them about love and friendship.

Make kids love and nurture plants and animals. Let them know about ‘ Out in the garden- what do I see’ and understand that trees wave to them in the breeze. The cleanliness poem which goes, ‘This is the way I clean my house, early in the morning’, ‘This is the way I sweep my floor’ can be alternated with dusting, mopping and folding clothes. Kids understand the domestic duties done by the helper or parents at home and it will amaze you when they help you with small things at home.

Values can be inculcated and not dictated. Kids love to learn on their own. Discipline is necessary but poems is an innovative way to teach the kids about planets, seasons and virtues.
